Spoken extempore on the receipt of the news of the taking of
Quebec.
Friend Pitt, (says a Quaker) thou wilt ruin us quite
Why my windows are broke, almost every night.
Mr. Stiff, (says a Churchman) who was standing hard by,
'Pray why should not you, shut up shop, well as I?
With bonfires and candles, we shall all be undone,
If this fellow goes on, he will put out the sun.
I will join with thee, neighbour, in any abuse.
For already thou seest, that the moon's of no use.
